9 Simple Ways to Turn Website Visitors Into Customers

Getting visitors but no calls? Nine simple, low-cost changes that help small business websites turn more visitors into enquiries and sales.

Quick answer: Say what you do in one clear line, put a call or quote button on every screen, show reviews and real photos, make it fast on phones, keep forms short, share prices where you can, and reply to every enquiry quickly.

Lots of small businesses get visitors to their website but very few enquiries. These nine changes are cheap to make and often help.

1. Say what you do in one sentence

Visitors decide in seconds whether they’re in the right place. Your top line should say what you do, who for and where. For example: “Friendly, reliable electricians in South London. Same-week appointments.”

2. Make the next step obvious

Every page should have one clear button: “Get a free quote”, “Book now” or “Call us”. Put it at the top and repeat it lower down. On phones, a sticky “Call” button works well.

3. Show real reviews

People trust other customers more than they trust you. Put your best reviews near the top, with names and locations if you can. Link to your Google reviews.

4. Use real photos

Photos of your actual work, shop or team beat stock photos every time. They show you’re real and help people picture working with you.

5. Make it fast on phones

Most visitors are on a phone. If your site takes more than a few seconds to load, many will leave before they see anything. Compress images and avoid heavy add-ons.

6. Keep forms short

Ask only for what you need to get back to them: name, phone or email, and a short message. Every extra box loses some people.

7. Give a guide to prices

You don’t need a full price list, but “Boiler service from £80” or “Most kitchens cost between £8,000 and £15,000” helps people decide to contact you, and puts off time-wasters.

8. Answer common questions

Add a short FAQ to each service page. It saves you time on the phone, reassures customers, and helps you show up on Google and in AI answers.

9. Reply fast, and follow up

The best website in the world is wasted if enquiries sit unanswered. Reply within an hour if you can, and follow up every quote. Read how to build a simple sales process.
